Hello everyone, it's challenge time over at Fantabulous Cricut. This weeks challenge is "Fall is in the air". You are challenged to create a fall themed project, using at least one Cricut cut. Ever since our vinyl university, I have been hooked on working with vinyl, and visit the dollar store on a regular basis, looking for things that I can use. I found these great candle holders for $1.00 each at the Dollar Tree, and I bought the apple scented candles there too. I used pieces of leftover vinyl from another project, so this set cost me a total of $8.00 plus tax. I am thinking of making some more to give away as Christmas gifts :) I wish I could take all the credit for these, but I got the idea, from a photographer friends site. They used tea cups with the word "LOVE" spelled out as a part of a bridal portrait session. I used the Cindy Loo, font layer to cut the letters, then it was a simple of putting them on the candle holders. A couple of them tried to bubble up at first, but I just kept pushing the air out and smoothing it, until they laid down onto the glass. I love how the red of the candles peak through the letters. They are even more beautiful when they are lit. I have included some pictures, but they don't do it justice.

My friend and co-worker, Kate is due to have her baby boy in just a couple of weeks now. We are all so excited to meet Baby Daniel. We through her a baby shower about a month ago, and I volunteered to make all the shower decorations. Her nursery is "Little Monsters" and I have to say it is super cute. This really just gave me a reason to purchase the Bump in the Night Cartridge. Which is one that I have wanted for a long time, but didn't hadn't had a reason to buy it. I made the banner, you see above, along with cupcake toppers and a "Monster Mom" pin for Kate to wear during the shower. I love how well it all turned out. Everything was made using coordinating papers and cardstock, foam tape, and a white gelly roll pin. Materials Used for Banner:

There will be Blog Candy along the way at ALL of our Design Team members' blogs, and don't forget about the Grand Prize up for grabs at FCCB for one participant who submits a vinyl project at FCCB! I had never worked with vinyl before, but had been wanting to create a piece of wall art for this blank space on the wall in our living room. It is right as you walk into our hallway, so it was a glaring blank spot yelling for a big bold graphic. I was surprised at how easy it was to use, and I think I am addicted now. I wanted it to be big (floor to celling), and I was having trouble getting pre-made images cut big enough, so I decided to make my own. It was actually a lot easier than I though it would be. The flowers were cut using a circle from Craft Room Basics, cut at 2.139 high, and the petals are cut using the layer (Bird 2) from Create A Critter, cut at 7.5 in high. I just really liked the shape of the wing and thought that it made a great country flower with a modern touch to it. I cut the flowers out in blue, brown, and a deep red. I know the wall color looks yellow, but it is really more of a tan color and the vinyl colors look great on the wall. I felt that it needed something more, so I decided to cut "Live, Laugh, Love" out and add it to the piece. I cut "Live" using the Type Candy Cartridge, standard font at 2.5 in high. "Laugh" was cut using the Type Candy Cartridge, Sugar Script font at 4.75 in high. Then "Love" was cut using the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, roly poly font, cut at 2.11 in high. I hope that you have been inspired by my project. Now for some Blog Candy To be eligible for my blog candy, all you need to do is become a follower and leave a comment on this post. You can comment on my project, share a tip on how to work with vinyl, or tell me what project you are working on and linking up to FCCB. I would also love it if you would "like" my Facebook page. I will choose one winner using Random.org, and announce the winner on Monday. This winner will receive a goody pack, to include some stamps and an embossing folder. It's time for another challenge over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. This week the challenge is "Heat Wave," make a project, using at least one Cricut cut, and something that shows summer heat, such as sunglasses, flip flops, a cool treat, etc... Don't forget to run over and link up your project for the chance to win a great prize from one of our wonderful sponsors. This week, I used the Simply Charmed, Groovy Times, and Best of 2012 (or Forever Young) cartridges to make this "Very Cool" card. I thought it would be cute to put some sunglasses on my little popsicle. Then I stamped the sentiment on the piece I cut using the Groovy Times cartridge. I used a navy gelly roll pen to add some faux stitching, then added some black rhinestones on the corners to balance the card.
It's challenge time again, over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog!!! This week the challenge is "Cool Treats," you create a yummy, cool, summer treat project. Hop on over to FCCB to link up your project. This weeks sponsor, CRI-Kits, was nice enough to let us use their product for our DT project. I have to say that I had never used a pen or marker in my Cricut before, but now I'm hooked. I love that I was able to draw my watermelon and title, and cut them out exactly. The biggest reason that I don't use many stamps is that I hate having to cut the out, this gave me the best of both worlds. I still got to color it in, but didn't have take all that time cutting all the little bity pieces out. It's wonderful!!! For my Berry Sweet card, I drew and cut out the watermelon and title using the Cricut and the CRI-Kit black pen. Then I colored them in using my BIC markers (like I said, I don't stamp much, so I don't have any Copics). Then I used my Cuttlebug and the Spots and Dots folder to emboss the background paper, used some chevron washi tape to add a border and some pink cardstock to finish the background. I added the watermelon to the background then added the title using foam tape. I really like how it turned out and I learned a new technique that I am sure to use a lot more in the future.
I know, I know, I have missed you this past week as well. Sorry that it has been over a week since my last post, but I have had a lot going on. I have a big event at work that needed some special attention, and it is shaping up to be a great conference. I was also working hard, co-hosting a baby shower for my co-worker Kate, who's baby boy is due in October. (I made all the decorations, pictures to come soon.) Anyway, it's challenge time again over at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. This week the challenge is to create a shape card, using at least one Cricut cut. Make sure you head over to FCCB and link up your project :) I was digging through all my stamps and found this super cute, Studio G stamp that says "Hello Friend" and I immediately thought of a phone, so I began to search through my cartridges to find a phone that I could use for this challenge. I found a lot of options, but I feel in love with this cut from the Wall Décor and More cartridge. I used the Cricut Craft Room, to weld a flipped version of the image to the top of the phone, to make the card. Then I cut another image using the yellow pattern paper for the front of the card. This image had a cord on one side of it. I cut it off, because the piece was too thin and it looked a bit odd once I put the card together. I finished it off by stamping the sentiment on the front, and adding rhinestones and the circle glass piece for the phone dial. I felt that it still needed something, so I added the pretty paper flowers with rhinestone centers. I love how it turned out and think it will make one of my friends very happy to get this card in the mail.
